The first National Park we visited on our road trip was Yellowstone! A few months ago while planning this trip out, we invited Kristi along as a sort of graduation present/trip. It was so much fun having her! James loved having someone to babble at while in the back seat of the car haha. We've decided we want to take her on all our vacations now :) We'll see if she's up for handling us for extended periods of time again haha.
Day one in Yellowstone consisted of Lower and Midway Geyser Basins, and Old Faithful. We first stopped at Lower Geyser Basin and walked along the pathway. This was our first time trying out our new hiking carrier! We wanted one with more storage space and more padding. We LOVE this carrier! McKay says it's much more comfortable than the last. And it also has a sun shade, which we used a lot.
Next we stopped at Midway Geyser Basin, which is home to the Grand Prismatic!
This area of the park was SO BUSY. We were stopped for about 10 minutes on the road before the turnout for the parking lot when we decided to just come back later. We drove maybe a half mile down the road and saw an opening off to the side of the road. Score! We parked and walked back to the boardwalk for the area.
I think this was my favorite thing to see at Yellowstone. We were loving walking around the walkways and such, but then we saw people hiking up a hill in the distance and we got excited! Turns out there's a trail to a viewpoint that isn't talked about much. I didn't see anything about it online, so I'm assuming most people who were hiking the trail discovered it the same way we did.
Next stop was Old Faithful! We got super lucky and snagged a parking spot right in front of the lodge entrance, woo! It was obviously a big deal because I'm including the occurrence on the blog haha. It was early enough so we got some delicious ice cream and relaxed before we rushed outside to see the geyser blow.

James could not have cared less about the geyser... I mean, he had a cone he was busy devouring so I don't blame him haha.
For day two we ventured to the North side of the park to see Mammoth Hot Springs and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. we were also hoping to see some wildlife, too. I thought the hot springs were so cool! McKay and I decided that if we ever come back to Yellowstone we want to pay for a guided tour. We just have so many questions and are so curious about everything! We love learning, and would love to learn all about how Yellowstone came to be. Visitor's centers can only tell so much, you know? We want to know more!
This spring area was called Cupid Spring, so we of course took a kissing photo. The best part is James' face though hahahaha not even a year old and he's already tired of our shenanigans.
We took the longer drive to get to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone in hopes of seeing some animals. And we didn't' see a thing! So lame. We were all sad and mopey until we were like 2 minutes from the canyon and BOOM. There was a bison hanging out right off the road! Yay! Some dude walked all the way up to it to take a photo. I about died. He was like 8 feet away!
Ah, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone!
Kristi said there was a spot you could walk to and be right beside the falls so we drove around to find it. It is amazing and scary to look down at that water. It's beautiful but at the same time it make me anxious to see such never-ending force.
And last but not least here's an adorable photo of James. *I die*
