This is the best time of year. Not too hot, not too cold. The best part?
It's time to garden!
I'd been daydreaming about an adorable little garden all winter. It was going to be awesome! All decked out with planter boxes, maybe a drip system, oh and of course it would have an adorable fence around it to keep the critters out. I was thinking something like this:
(ha. ha. ha.)
Too much? Ok so maybe we didn't have as much room as the lucky folks with the fantastic garden, but hey, we had some dirt, a shovel, and our hands. So we got to it! While I was at work, McKay set off to Home Depot to get our seeds. It was a lot of work to clear our small plot of land out, especially for me (I sat and watched one heck of an attractive man clear out all the weeds and grind up the dirt, while occasionally bringing him some food). Such hard work, I know. To be honest, this is what I was REALLY doing while he worked:
I hid around the corner taking creeper shots.
McKay did an amazing job! He turned what once looked like this:
Into this:
WOW right?? So the seeds were planted and then came the hard part, waiting. It has been a good two weeks since we planted our seeds, and we are proud to announce that we are the happy parents of: drum roll... 2 tomato plants, 1 jalapeno plant, 7 corn sprouts, 8 green bean sprouts, several cucumber sprouts, and lots of onions, carrots, and green onions! Our pepper and lettuce seeds may be having a hard time, but we've still got faith!

Just yesterday McKay and I were talking about our little success. Just seeing those little spouts makes us so happy! Of course there's no real vegetables yet, but let's hope we've got enough of a green thumb to get us there! We have been loving our new little hobby that we picked up. Gardening is something that not only do we both love to do, but we love to do it together. It's been a great way to spend time together between work and school.
Now while those little guys are growing, onto project #2: getting rid of this gnarly stump!
It's dead and in the way, so we've decided to hack up those roots and burn them when we go camping. McKay managed to get a good 1/5 of it gone in under half an hour, we'll see if the rest of it will be as easy!
nice! I like that adjustment to the garden way more than the weeds that once lived there. :)
ReplyDeleteRight?? We should send before and after pictures to our land lady. haha
